Notes: Fro’s website was launched mid-November 2007 with a major update in February 2010 including a mobile edition.

Social Networking Sites

In the last few weeks I have really gotten more into the social networking sites but maybe not for the reasons most people do. They are really good marketing tools, and very easy to keep updated if you know how to automate them. Plus they give people anther way to find your web address, hours, location, etc. Once I got thing figured out it only took about a half-hour to an hour of setup time per business page.

Both of the business listed below are also setup to require no manual intervention using the notes/RSS import feature of Facebook. It works really well and basically takes care of keeping your Facebook page up-to-date.

Side note: I have uploaded one photo from each band that has played recently but even that isn't really needed.

Muscatine Journal:

All of the tools needed to import the RSS feeds into your Facebook pages are built into Facebook, no need for any third party applications. If you want to do this all you need to do is edit the note admin options, from there select import settings (or something similar). Once you gotten there you will be able to import an RSS feed directly into your notes, automatically with minimal setup effort.

I do use Facebook for my personal use as well but really I don't use it more the to update my status from my phone and even that's limited.

As for Twitter ( http://twitter.com/beauhuber ) I will be doing much the same thing that I do for the business. Using RSS to import my facebook status into Twitter using twitterfeed.com. Keeping it simple and hassle free, just the way I like it.

New Website

I've completed the launch of a new local website for Fro's Pub n Grub. If you would like to visit Fro's on the web click here. If you would like to find out more about my work or any of the other sites I have designed click here.

I would also like to thank whomever nominated me and also thank the Wilton Light and Power company for sponsoring the contest. This is a really cool honor, not to mechine the trophy for my yard, I'm super excited about this.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

Wilton Mayoral Race 2007

This year isn't going to be a normal year for the race for mayor in the small town of Wilton, IA. At lest two candidates are running for mayor, which for a small town is a little unusual. I'm not much into politics but I've gotta say it's gonna be interesting, so if you live in Wilton, get out and vote!

New Pictures

I have uploaded some new pictures that I have taken with my LG UX 355 Bluetooth camera phone from US Cellular. I download the pictures to my computer using a bluetooth adapter and bitpim. The quality of the pictures aren't bad but they aren't anything compared to my Cannon digital camera.

There is also a few new picture in the "People" Gallery.

WiltonIowa.org Project Update

Just wanted to write a quick update on the work I have done on WiltonIowa.org over the past few weeks.

-- In June I rebuilt the Chamber of Commerce Online Member Directory. Previously the member directory was basically a printed version of the directory. The online version of the member directory is now searchable, printable, has capacity for pictures, an email address, web links, and could contain additional information.

-- Clean, search engine friendly URLs for the COC member directory. This was a bit of work because our web host says "mod_rewrite is insure and has been disabled". This posed a bit of a challenge, no problem that is where PATH_INFO came into play. You can see how I handled it by visiting the directory. I really wish I could have used mod_rewrite as it would have saved a lot of time, but if you can't PATH_INFO work great too!

-- XML sitemaps seem like an important thing anymore. Without good search exposure what good is a website? So the last part of the project was to build as semi-static xml sitemap and submit it to all of the major search providers.

There was also a tremendous amount of small updates which I am not even going to list. The best way to see for yourself what WiltonIowa.org has evolved into is to see it for yourself.

Pictures, Videos, Music, And More...

Yesterday I posted over 85 new pictures to the Gallery so be sure to check them out today.

I'm also in the process of uploading some new video from this past winter of me a some friends ridding a a four-wheeler on a frozen pond, it was a lot of fun. You can see all of the videos I have posted to Google Video here.

I have updated my design portfolio with all of my latest projects so you can keep track of what I have been working on. Enjoy!

I've been using XaMp studio to listen to my XM radio at home, it pretty neat. If the programs currently running it will update a tracker of what I'm listening to, you can see that from the below image.

Thats all for now, more later...

Ramblings for 12/20/2006

Long time no post, well I've been busy. (What other excuse did you expect me to use?) This is going to be a long post about my work since the last posting. I've learned a lot since then and have been able to work with some great software!

Christmas Already?
WOW! I can't believe it almost Christmas already, it really doesn't seem like it. The weather here in Wilton, IA sure hasn't been really anything winter like. We even missed out on a big snow storm a couple of weeks back, not that it would matter now as it all has melted anyway. I finally got the inside of my house decorated for Christmas a week or so back even with a new 6.5ft fiber optic tree. I'll post some picture in the future of my lights and stuff.

WordPress What?
Currently I'm working on setting up an interesting blog for a friend using WordPress and it going very well. I'll post the address to the site when its done! :-)

It has been a very pleasant experience (WordPress) thus far. I'm considering replacing PostNuke with either WordPress or Drupal for HUBERHOME. I haven't really put much thought into it but hey you never know.

Drupal Anyone?
I'm using Drupal for Online Grades (www.onlinegrades.org) and it has to be one of the easiest content management systems I have used so far. I just finished the Drupal/Gallery integration some time last week it took some reading to get it done but it wasn't bad.

Wilton CSD 2.0
Before Thanksgiving I finally was able to give my work website (www.wiltoncsd.org) a much need overhaul. The site is still running the same back end software but with a much need face lift and brand spankin' new web 2.0ish style contact directory.

Gone are the days of pure JavaScript menus that need to be updated with windows software. I've replaced them with a DHTML and CSS based menu that works much better if JavaScript is disabled or unavailable.
